Mostar Bridge

It is located on the Neretva river, which passes through the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina.bridge. The original bridge was built by Mimar Hayreddin, a student of Mimar Sinan, in 1566[1] and was used for 427 years until it was destroyed by Croatian forces on 9 November 1993 during the Bosnian-Croatian War. Architect Hayreddin used 456 blocks of stone for the bridge.[2] The bridge also gave its name to the surrounding city. Mostar became the main city of the Herzegovina region. A project was prepared to rebuild the bridge and on 23 July 2004 the new bridge was put into service. The bridge was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005.
